Travelling around Samoa, you would find the saying “Gods best kept secret” displayed in a number of different ways. I truly agree with that, and this especially goes for the beautiful Le Lagoto Resort and Spa on Samoa’s Savai’i. It has often been said that you haven't seen Samoa until you have visited Savai’i. The big island. Here, the island life is really displayed, with a laid back and slow way of living, alongside drop dead gorgeous scenery.
On the Northern coast of Savai'i at Fagamalo Village is the wonderfully kept hidden gem known as Le Lagoto Resort. This is exactly what I would imagine heaven to look like through and through. Only a one hour ferry ride away from Upolu, Savai’i really is one of those “pinch yourself” places. The ferry ride passes in no time, and with such a scenic view I found myself on the top level observing the beautiful nature and surroundings. To the side you are able to view beautiful reef and tranquil turquoise waters, identical to those you would see in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef!
Driving along the coast from the wharf was really a breathtaking and magical experience. We followed a long stretch of sandy white beaches resemblant to those at Whitehaven Beach in Queensland, with crystal clear turquoise waters and dozens of palm trees lining both sides. We would see joyous children as young as five years old splashing in the calm and enticing waters of the pacific with their brothers and sisters, without a worry and nothing but an enormous smile from ear to ear. We would find ourselves asking to stop for a photo op every five seconds, and this is exactly what we did. Luckily the lovely Tracy who was showing us around had enough patience, and shared the same passion for photography as we did, so you would see three happy photographers all along the coast leaning over to get all sorts of good angles of the beautiful waters.
The small boutique resort of Le Lagoto is situated at the perfect location just before the tip of the coast, definitely in a prime location. From my first few steps into the resort, I could see the lush blooming tropical flowers throughout the resort, and the bluest of blue waters glistening in the sun. After being greeted by a number of joyful staff and the charismatic manager, we were escorted to our room, and it was time to explore (which really meant photooooo time)!
Le Lagoto Resort appears to be a hidden paradise nestled in a cove with beach bungalows surrounded by towering coconut palms. Lucky enough to be given oceanfront, our room was in prime location almost kissing the waters edge, and with doors opening up to a lovely wooden deck overlooking the ocean, we were separated from the water by a mere small stretch of green grass. Infront of this grass strip was a few wooden steps which led to a plank above the most beautifully coloured water I had ever seen in my life. It was at this point when I was dangling my feet in the warm waters, that I realised that Samoa really is one of the top five worlds best gems. I have visited Cancun, Greece, Puerto Rico, Miami, Hawaii, and many more, and never have I seen the colours the water presented. It appeared photoshopped. The lagoon is protected by a barrier of reef, and offers guests the most tranquil, clear, and calm waters possible. The colour of the water reflects every shade of blue that you could possibly imagine. As you look into it, you are drawn in with a strong desire to join the waters for a beautiful swim. This was the only resort of my time in Samoa where I said to myself “you 100% have to get in for a swim!” and I did. The reef brought in hundreds of coloured fish, leaving it to be the perfect snorkelling location.
Swimming out further into the pacific ocean and looking back to the resort was just as peaceful, with a view of the beach fales, the enticing infinity pool, and the lush vegetation surrounding. I could lay there all day. After swimming back to the decking, a perfect way to end the swim would be to dry up on one of the beautifully set beach hammocks located right on the edge of the grass and be rocked by the oceans breeze. Very serene.
My fale was clean and comfortable, and the amazing deck and sun lounges were an added bonus. The deck was perfect to lay back with a glass of wine and enjoy the amazing view, or even better the spectacular sunset. A number of visitors were taking full advantage of the sunset views from their room, having organised a dinner to be set up right on their deck. As the day came close to an end and the sun slowly settled to allow the moon to shine, we were showcased with the most amazing colourful display of a sunset, leaving the oceans water to sparkle in all different colours. The colours took my breath away as they reflected against the glassy waters of the lagoon. The resort really lives up to its name “Le Lagoto,” which in Samoan means Sunset.
As the sunset reached its final stages, we headed to dinner, where a luxurious and elegant table setting was set up on a decking right on the water front. Here we were able to overlook the beautiful ocean and fire torches on the sand, as well as the tranquil infinity pool to the side. This famous infinity pool was also a guest favourite to sit by and relax and enjoy the sunset, whilst melting away the day in preparation for a great evening of entertainment.
